Peter Desmet

Peter’s journey into the outdoors began at the age of 14. His dad gifted him with, the now, world renowned SAS Survival Handbook by John L.Wiseman. Fascinated with its content, he found himself exploring the Southern forests of his homeland Belgium and practicing fundamental outdoor skills along the way. Gradually his attention shifted towards adventure travel looking for new and exciting experiences. This took him across Europe. Peter hiked in Corsica and Crete, climbed in France, Switzerland and Austria. He undertook winter expeditions in Swedish Lapland and Norway, canoed in Southern Sweden and eventually came to Ontario. This is when he fell in love with Algonquin Park. His past experience as a Park Warden in the interior sparked an interest to share his skills and knowledge with fellow adventurers who visit this beautiful place. Peter knows what he knows and shares his knowledge enthusiastically, knowing that he too will be forever a student of nature.

Peter runs his own outdoor school for wilderness development and backcountry adventure. He has guided many summer and winter trips and has an abundance of knowledge to share.

Peter offers private programming for individuals and small groups, specializing in personal training, wilderness skills and guiding. Check out his website at
